Mussels with Wittekerke Beer

Mussels or moules are the national dish of Belgium and are in season from September to February. Most of the mussels consumed in Belgium come fromthe North Sea, off the northern coast of the Netherlands. Serve these delectable mollusks with plenty of fresh, crusty bread to sop up all that good broth, and be sure to be sipping a Belgian white wheat beer.

 What You Need:

  • 1/2 celery
  • 1 big onion, finely chopped.
  • 1 shallot.
  • 1/2 bundle of parsley butter.
  • 8 Pound of mussels.
  • Lemon juice
  • Curry

Preparation:

  1.  Thinly slice all vegetables. Mince the parsley together with its stalks. 
  2. Sauté the vegetables in the butter until they are translucent. Add the mussels and top with beer and lemon juice.
  3.  Add some curry.Shake vigorously. Let the mussels cook for 10 to 15 minutes under cover.
  4. Serve with some bread.
